The Pentagon announced the receipt of $130 million from an anonymous donor, which is intended to cover expenses for military salaries and benefits. Department spokesperson Sean Parnell emphasized that this support is particularly important amid delays in payments due to political disagreements in Congress.
Despite the significant amount, experts note that its impact on the overall Pentagon budget is limited: military salary expenses are measured in billions of dollars.
As reported by The New York Times, the donation was made by Timothy Mellon - a reclusive billionaire who financed Donald Trump's 2024 campaign. He is also known for his generous support of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and related anti-vaccine initiatives.
Mellon leads a secluded lifestyle in Wyoming, but in recent years he has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in support of Trump and the Republican Party, becoming one of the largest private donors in American politics.
