Russia's statements indicate: Moscow is not going to retreat from the war in Ukraine. It is increasingly clear that the Kremlin sees no grounds for a ceasefire and continues to support military rhetoric, citing the "root causes of the conflict." This was stated on TV24 by Major of the National Armed Forces of Latvia Janis Slaidins, as reported by LA.LV.

Slaidins noted that such statements once again prove: Russia has no intention of stopping, and any hopes for a diplomatic settlement at this stage appear illusory.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially stated that the Russian army does not plan to conclude a ceasefire in Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, calls for a ceasefire contradict the allegedly reached agreements between Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump at a meeting in Alaska.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow seeks to "eliminate the root causes of the conflict." According to him, the results of the August summit in Alaska do not mean an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, and some forces are allegedly trying to persuade the U.S. to change its position.

Lavrov added that an immediate cessation of actions against Ukraine would mean that Moscow "has forgotten the root causes of the conflict," and a ceasefire now, in his opinion, "would leave a large part of Ukraine under the control of Nazis."

Slaidins reminded that Russia has repeatedly openly stated its intentions not to stop. Throughout the war, the Kremlin has consistently emphasized that its military demands remain unchanged and has indicated that they will be achieved through both military and diplomatic means. At the same time, Russia is not preparing its own society to accept any compromise that would concede the stated goals.

"European leaders can write, call for action, but action is needed... Russia has no way back — there is only a way forward. It will only turn back when everything internally in Russia is over," Slaidins stated.
