Polish law enforcement agencies have detained 55 people in recent months on suspicion of collaborating with Russian special services, reports POLSKIE RADIO.
As previously reported, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated on air that in recent days, security services in various regions of the country have detained eight individuals suspected of preparing sabotage in several Polish regions. Later, government representatives clarified that a total of 55 people had been detained during a broader investigation.
These individuals are suspects in several separate, multifaceted investigations into the activities of Russian intelligence services in Poland.
Among those detained is 21-year-old Ukrainian citizen Danilo H., who was reportedly engaged in espionage in Poland and Romania. He was arrested on October 16 near Warsaw in cooperation with the Romanian intelligence service. Two other Ukrainian citizens connected to Danilo H. were detained in Bucharest.
The day after the arrest, prosecutors charged Danilo H. with acting in the interests of Russian intelligence services against Poland with the preparation of sabotage. He has been placed under a three-month detention pending trial.
Authorities have established that the suspects created a network for transporting explosives through Poland and Romania to Ukraine.
The investigation into these cases is ongoing.
