WSJ: The U.S. plans to hold more consultations with Russia than before the summit in Alaska.

Ahead of the bilateral meeting between U.S. and Russian leaders Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, Washington plans to hold more consultations with the Russian side than it did before the summit in Alaska. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) citing a source in the U.S. president's administration.

"In hopes of laying the groundwork for an agreement, the U.S. plans to hold more meetings with Russia at a lower level than were held before the negotiations in Alaska," the article states.

It is noted that at the meetings, the U.S. will be represented by Secretary of State Marco Rubio instead of Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

On October 16, Trump had a phone conversation with Putin, during which, according to the American leader, "great progress" was made. The politicians agreed to first organize a meeting of foreign ministers and then to meet in person in Budapest.
