Latvian citizen Alexander Vabik was detained in Switzerland after threatening a Ukrainian family on a train, reports the Polish news network "TVP World."
As we have already reported, the incident occurred on October 13 on a train traveling from Interlaken to Spiez.
Ukrainian Elena Dudnik posted a video on Instagram showing a man on the train threatening her and her husband in Russian with physical violence. Dudnik was traveling with her husband and their one year and ten months old son.
Other internet users identified the man making threats as Vabik, a 42-year-old citizen of Latvia, who claims in his social media profiles that he once studied at the Zolitūde Gymnasium in Riga and lives in Zurich, Switzerland.
"Get out before your child gets hurt," Vabik shouted. "What do you have against Russians? We will kill you to the end. I am Swiss, and nothing will happen to me."
When Vabik noticed that he was being filmed, he knocked the phone out of Dudnik's hands. Dudnik's husband pushed Vabik away. "There was physical violence, a fight, and a call to the police," Dudnik wrote on Facebook.
Witnesses reported the incident to the police, who met the train at the next station. The incident was recorded by surveillance cameras on the train.
According to Dudnik, Vabik tried to hide in another carriage of the train but was detained. Even in the presence of the police, he continued to consume alcohol and behaved arrogantly and aggressively.
The Bern cantonal police confirmed the incident, and an investigation is underway. Swiss authorities also reported that Vabik does not hold Swiss citizenship.
The Latvian State Security Service (VDD) has also opened a criminal case against Vabik under the article for inciting national and ethnic hatred and hostility towards Ukrainians, associated with violence and threats.
