AP: The U.S. should supply Ukraine with ERAM and ATACMS munitions instead of Tomahawk missiles.
The U.S. should focus on supplying Ukraine with long-range Extended Range Active Missile (ERAM) and Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) instead of Tomahawk cruise missiles. This was reported by the American news agency Associated Press (AP).
The publication discusses the recent refusal of Washington to supply Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles.
According to American defense analyst Mark Montgomery, in the near future, Ukraine could benefit more if it were able to increase the number of ERAM and ATACMS munitions. "The decision to supply Tomahawk is not only a military decision but also a political one. ERAM has a shorter range, but it could help them exert operational pressure on Russia, on its logistics, command and control, as well as on the distribution of forces within a few hundred kilometers of the front line. This could be very effective," the expert stated.
The agency notes that the range of Tomahawk missiles that the U.S. could transfer to Ukraine reaches 1,600 kilometers, while the range of ERAM is 460 kilometers and ATACMS is 300 kilometers.
In November 2021, The Drive reported that in the future, the recently re-established 56th Artillery Command of the U.S. Army in Germany would receive a number of currently being developed samples of the latest American weapons, in particular, the advanced hypersonic missile Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW), named Dark Eagle, the multifunctional Typhon system, which allows launching different missiles from one platform, including RIM-174 ERAM and Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM), and the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM).
