The industrial and energy engineering company Tec Industry has completed part of the design for the artillery ammunition factory of the German defense giant Rheinmetall, worth several hundred million euros, in the Radviliškis district of Lithuania. A contractor will be selected soon and construction will begin, Lithuanian business publication Verslo zinios reported on Thursday.
According to the portal, the company will now oversee the implementation of the project.
According to Vaidas Laukaitis, head of Tec Industry, the company has prepared the technical documentation necessary for selecting the general contractor, with particular attention given to explosion control solutions during the design phase.
"We have formed a separate team of designers that has been consistently working since the contract was signed in June and will continue to do so. Together, we are preparing for growth and looking for highly qualified designers," Laukaitis said.
BNS reported that Rheinmetall, in collaboration with two Lithuanian state companies — Epso-G, Epso-G Invest, and Giraite Armament Factory — will begin the implementation of a project to build a factory for the production of 155-mm artillery ammunition in Baisogala this year, with a preliminary cost of 260–300 million euros.
Jose Manuel Fernandez Bosch, CEO of the German group Rheinmetall Expal Munitions, stated earlier this year that the new factory in Baisogala is expected to start operations in early 2027.
Tomas Varneckas, CEO of Epso-G Invest, stated in an interview with BNS that the construction of the factory in Baisogala is expected to begin in the summer or fall, and if all goes well, it will be completed by the fall of 2026.
After the countries signed an investment agreement last summer, it was announced that the German group intends to create at least 150 new jobs at the future factory.
According to the agreement signed in December last year, Rheinmetall owns 51%, Epso-G Invest 48%, and Giraitė Armaments Plant 1% of the shares in Rheinmetall Defence Lietuva.
