Tokayev announced changes to 40 articles of the Constitution of Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced changes to 40 articles of the republic's Constitution. He made this statement at the first meeting of the working group on parliamentary reform in the country, as reported by the press service of the Kazakh leader on Telegram.
"The changes will affect about 40 articles of the Fundamental Law. After that, it will be necessary to bring into line at least 10 constitutional laws and more than 50 codes and laws. This process is essentially comparable to adopting a new Constitution," Tokayev said.
During his speech on parliamentary reform, he also stated that the formation of Kazakhstan's legislative body, for which the fundamental law of the republic is being changed, will be based on party lists. The goal of this step, the head of state noted, is to develop political competition.
According to him, the entire volume of work necessary for the reform cannot be accomplished alone.
