On Tuesday, a second 24-hour workers' strike is taking place in Greece this month, severely disrupting public transport and service provision across the country, LETA reports citing AFP.
Unions are organizing this strike in protest against proposed changes that, in some cases, allow for a 13-hour workday.
According to the bill that the government plans to vote on Wednesday, workers will be able to work up to 13 hours a day for up to 37 days a year, if both parties — employer and employee — agree to it.
Opposition parties and unions express concern that workers may face dismissal if they refuse to work overtime.
Due to the strike, public and municipal services are unavailable in Greece on Tuesday, ferry and train services are completely paralyzed, however, air travel is not affected.
Public transport in Athens is also limited.
A nationwide 24-hour strike in Greece regarding these proposed changes to labor legislation already took place on October 1.
