WSJ: Israel is caught between a hammer and an anvil.

Israel is caught between a hammer and an anvil, said Shalom Lipner, a staff member of the Atlantic Council and former advisor to several Israeli prime ministers. He is quoted by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

"Regionally, Israel is under less threat now than it was two years ago. But on the international stage, the country is caught between a hammer and an anvil, and long-term trends are not in its favor," he said.

As the publication notes, anger towards Israel has spread from the Muslim world to Europe and increasingly to the United States, where a significant portion of the Democratic Party and a growing part of the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement are now opposing American aid to Israel.

According to Nathalie Tocci, director of the Institute of International Relations in Rome and former senior advisor on foreign policy to the European Commission, Israel has overstepped because the West allowed it to. She noted that its friends have been "not very friendly" in some sense, as they did not restrain Tel Aviv from destructive actions in the long term.

Earlier, American leader Donald Trump stated that the U.S. received information about Iran's interest in making a deal regarding the Gaza Strip. The White House chief noted that this is a strong signal.
