Out of every 1,000 Israelis, four emigrated in the last two years - an average of 216 people per day.
The number of Jews in Israel, around 7.3 million, constitutes just over 46% of the total number of Jews in the world. There are also 555,000 non-Jews living in Israel who immigrated under the Law of Return because one of their parents was Jewish, and they are not included in the aforementioned number. The share of Arabs in the population is 21.5%, which amounts to 2.213 million people. In 2016, their share of the population was 20.8%, with the increase mainly recorded as a result of "family reunification" with Palestinian women. In 2024, an additional 5,000 Arabs were naturalized under this program.
In 2022, due to the war in Ukraine, 74,807 repatriates arrived in Israel. This increase is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of the ongoing "Iron Swords" war that has lasted for two years. Israel remains a magnet for the Jewish people due to anti-Semitic attacks in many countries, as the world has forgotten about the Holocaust.
Over the past year, 21,000 Israelis who had emigrated abroad returned to Israel. Another 25,000 repatriates arrived in Israel, most of them from the former USSR and Western countries, totaling 46,000 people.
In most cases, the share of individuals with higher education in this population group is very high, which means an influx of skilled personnel rich in knowledge and abilities that can enrich and increase Israel's GDP due to the knowledge and skills that are lacking in Israel.
In 2025, 79,000 people left Israel, with an average of 216 Israelis leaving the country each day. Israel's migration balance in the past Jewish year was negative, with 28,000 people according to the Central Bureau of Statistics. Over the past seven years, from 2018 to 2024, 322,600 Israelis left Israel, while 175,100 returned to the country after living abroad.
Overall, 147,500 people left Israel over the seven years. The main outflow occurred in 2024, immediately after the start of the war, when 58,900 people left Israel - 82,700 departed and 23,800 returned.
