Lockheed Martin has completed testing of the precision missiles PrSM.
The U.S. Army has successfully completed a series of flight tests of the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. This was reported by the American defense contractor Lockheed Martin.
During the tests, the U.S. Army conducted launches of the PrSM, known in particular as the destroyer of Russian S-400 air defense systems, from High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and M270A2 launchers. "Successful tests ultimately increased lethality by providing soldiers with advanced capabilities to neutralize targets at long ranges on proven platforms," the press release states.
According to Carolyn Orzechowski, Vice President for Precision Strike Missiles at Lockheed Martin, the conducted tests confirmed the ability to launch the PrSM from all systems currently in service with the U.S. Army. The company's statement emphasizes that the PrSM is designed to provide precision strikes that neutralize targets at distances exceeding 400 kilometers.
In May 2021, Lockheed Martin reported that during tests, the PrSM missile flew over 400 kilometers, breaking its own range record.
In June of the same year, the U.S. Army demonstrated a possible scenario for the use of the PrSM missile.
In April, the Breaking Defense portal reported that the U.S. Army is exploring the possibility of increasing the range of the PrSM missiles to 1,600 kilometers.
In December 2019, the same publication, citing Brigadier General John Rafferty, reported that the developing PrSM ground-to-ground missile for the U.S. Army would become a "destroyer" of Russian air defense systems, such as the S-400, while in the Pacific, the weapon's targets would be Chinese combat ships.
