Eyewitnesses reported the appearance of one or more drones near Munich airport and over its territory. About 20 flights were canceled, but the perpetrators were not found, DW writes.

At Munich airport, 17 outbound flights were canceled on October 2 due to a drone sighting in the sky. As reported by AFP early on the morning of Friday, October 3, citing a representative of the German federal police, several eyewitnesses initially reported the appearance of a drone near the airport. Later, there were reports that the drone was also spotted over the airport's territory.

At the time of publication, it was unclear whether it was one or several drones. As a result, the runways were closed late on the evening of October 2.

Federal police and Bavarian police searched the airport area in an attempt to locate unknown flying objects or suspicious individuals, including using a police helicopter. However, their efforts were unsuccessful, dpa reported.

The flight cancellations affected about 3,000 passengers. Oktoberfest is currently taking place in Munich, attracting numerous visitors from around the world.

Unknown drones in Denmark and other European countries

Earlier, in September, numerous sightings of unidentified drones were recorded over airports and military facilities in Denmark. Although the origin of these devices has not yet been established, several European governments suspect that Russia may be involved in the incidents. Moscow denies such accusations.

In recent weeks, three NATO countries - Poland, Estonia, and Romania - have also reported violations of their airspace by unidentified drones and Russian military aircraft.

On October 2, at a meeting of the European Political Community (EPC) in Copenhagen, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of the possibility of Russia using drones anywhere in Europe. "If the Russians dare to use drones against Poland or violate the airspace of Northern European countries, it can happen anywhere - in Western Europe, in the south," he said.
