In month-to-month comparison, the decline in freight transport volume was smaller, amounting to 7.3%. According to the Statistics Department, last month the volume of freight transport decreased by 32.2% to 34.1 million ton-kilometers.
The number of railway passengers also decreased compared to the previous year, but significantly less – by 7.1% to 606,000 passengers. Passenger turnover decreased by 13.5% to 29.7 million passenger-kilometers.
In 2024, 30.1% less cargo was transported by rail compared to the previous year, totaling 7.1 million tons. Freight turnover decreased by 24% to 585.8 million ton-kilometers.
More than 7.9 million passengers were transported, which is 1.6% more than in 2023, while passenger turnover amounted to 382.4 million passenger-kilometers, decreasing by 6.3% over the year.
