Большинство родителей выбирают спортивные секции для детей ради укрепления здоровья.

Some sports are traditionally considered the most beneficial for children's health. However, musculoskeletal rehabilitation specialist Dmitry Khodan is convinced that even popular sections can carry certain risks for the body, especially with regular and intensive training.

Most parents choose sports sections for their children not for a professional career, but to strengthen health, develop endurance, and discipline. However, according to rehabilitation trainer Dmitry Khodan, some sports can create additional stress on a child's body.

The specialist shared which sections he would not send his own children to and which areas he considers the most beneficial.

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Rhythmic gymnastics took the top spot on the coach's list.

According to the expert, this sport places a significant emphasis on developing extreme flexibility, which can lead to excessive joint mobility and problems with the musculoskeletal system in the future.

Additionally, the specialist points out the high psychological stress that young athletes often face.

Swimming

The second place was unexpected for many — swimming.

Despite its reputation as one of the safest sports, the coach believes that regular training in the pool has its downsides.

According to him, regular exposure to chlorinated water is associated with the effects of chemicals on the respiratory tract. Moreover, professional swimmers often experience shoulder joint problems due to repetitive strain.

The expert also notes that swimming is not a universal method for preventing posture disorders and scoliosis, as is commonly believed.

Boxing, Hockey, and Other Injury-Prone Sports

The third position is occupied by sports associated with a high risk of injury.

First and foremost, this includes boxing, where athletes receive blows to the head, as well as hockey and other contact disciplines.

In the coach's opinion, such stresses can have long-term health consequences for a child.

What Sports Does the Expert Consider the Most Beneficial

In the list of the most preferred areas, Dmitry Khodan included:

Martial Arts — judo, jiu-jitsu, aikido, taekwondo, and some other disciplines. According to the specialist, they develop coordination, endurance, balance, and self-confidence.

Tennis — helps develop strength, flexibility, reaction speed, and movement coordination.

Athletics — running and race walking contribute to the harmonious development of the body and strengthen the cardiovascular system.

At the same time, specialists remind that the choice of a sports section should always take into account the child's age, health condition, physical characteristics, and personal interests.

Each sport has its advantages and limitations. Experts advise choosing a section not based on trends or popularity, but considering the individual characteristics of the child. The main thing is that the activities bring joy, contribute to harmonious development, and do not become a cause of chronic injuries or overloads.
