57-year-old Kylie Minogue has revealed for the first time that she secretly battled a cancer relapse for the past five years. The artist explained why she hid the diagnosis from fans, how she tried to become a mother through IVF, and what helped her cope with the illness again.
The disease returned after years
About twenty years ago, Kylie Minogue underwent treatment for breast cancer. At that time, the singer had to give up performances and cancel a number of concerts to undergo chemotherapy and radiation therapy in Paris. Her family and her then-boyfriend Olivier Martinez were by her side.
After treatment, the disease retreated, and the singer returned to an active career. She released new songs, toured, and built her personal life. However, as the artist herself admitted, she always dreamed of becoming a mother.
The singer postponed treatment for the sake of a child
According to Kylie, she even postponed the start of some medical procedures in order to undergo IVF in an attempt to get pregnant. However, the attempts were unsuccessful.
In 2021, during a routine check-up, doctors once again discovered cancer in the artist. The news was a heavy blow for the singer, but she was unable to publicly discuss the relapse at that time.
"I didn’t feel obligated to tell the whole world about it. At that moment, I just couldn’t do it because I was merely a shell of a person," Minogue admitted in the documentary.

The song turned out to be a confession about the illness
The singer shared her struggle in a three-part documentary project titled Kylie, which will soon be released on an online platform.
The artist also revealed that the song Story from her sixteenth studio album Tension is dedicated to her second battle with cancer. Fans had no idea that the lyrics were directly related to the singer's experiences. Meanwhile, the lyrics include lines like: "I had a secret that I kept to myself, yeah / I had a one-way ticket that led nowhere."
What helped Kylie cope
Minogue emphasized that early diagnosis played a key role. It was timely examinations that allowed her to start treatment on time and avoid severe consequences of the disease.
In the opinion of the editorial team, Kylie Minogue's story once again highlights the importance of regular check-ups and attentive care for one's health. Even global stars are not immune to serious diagnoses, but timely diagnosis and support from loved ones can play a decisive role.
