A fire broke out at the Syzran Oil Refinery in the Samara region of Russia following an attack by Ukrainian drones. According to local authorities, two people were killed, and flights were temporarily restricted at several Russian airports due to the drone attacks.
On the night of Thursday, Ukrainian drones attacked the Syzran Oil Refinery in the Samara region of Russia.
After the strike, a large fire broke out on the premises of the facility. Numerous videos and photographs showing a thick column of smoke and open flames over the refinery appeared on social media and Telegram channels. The governor of the Samara region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, reported that two people were killed as a result of the attack, and there are also injured.
The Syzran Oil Refinery has been targeted by drone strikes before. The previous attack on the facility was recorded at the end of April.
The refinery is considered one of the major oil processing enterprises in the region. According to Russian sources, it processes between seven and nearly nine million tons of oil annually and participates in supplying fuel to the Russian army.
In light of the new drone attacks, Russian authorities have once again restricted the operations of several airports. On Thursday, flights were temporarily suspended in Saratov, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, Makhachkala, and Kaluga.
Importantly, strikes on oil processing facilities and logistics infrastructure have become a key part of Ukraine's strategy to pressure the Russian military and energy sector.
Such attacks increasingly lead not only to fires at enterprises but also to disruptions in transportation and aviation in various regions of Russia.
Against this backdrop, Russian regions regularly impose temporary restrictions on civil aviation flights during drone threat alerts.
The scale of attacks and the geography of strikes have noticeably expanded in recent months — drones are increasingly reaching targets far from the front lines.
