Brushing teeth immediately after coffee can harm enamel due to a temporary increase in acidity in the mouth, warned dentist Ann Nguyenchang. This is reported by Yahoo Health.
According to her, the organic acids contained in the drink temporarily soften the enamel, so mechanical action at this moment can cause micro-damage, thinning of the protective layer, and increased tooth sensitivity.
The specialist noted that it is better to brush teeth before coffee: this removes the overnight plaque and reduces the deposition of pigments. If brushing was done after eating, it is recommended to wait about 30 minutes before consuming the drink to allow the enamel to recover.
In cases where the teeth have already been brushed after coffee, the doctor advises rinsing the mouth with water. This helps reduce acidity and partially remove coloring substances. She also recommends not to overindulge in coffee, reduce sugar intake, use a straw for cold drinks, and more often choose water or herbal infusions with low acidity.
