During cleaning of cottages, basements, and utility rooms, one can contract hantavirus, said doctor Ekaterina Guzman.
Infectious disease is caused by hantaviruses. Its carriers are small rodents. The incubation period can last up to one and a half months. At the same time, the risk of infection significantly decreases when preventive measures are followed.
Guzman recommended wearing gloves and a mask while cleaning, avoiding sweeping dry dust, storing food in airtight containers, avoiding water from unverified sources, and promptly dealing with rodents.
The doctor noted that timely consultation with a specialist helps avoid severe consequences. Medical attention should be sought urgently if there is a rise in temperature, severe headache, lower back pain, weakness, nausea, vomiting, and a decrease in urine output.
