Ian McKellen Admitted His 'Love' for Johnny Depp

British actor Ian McKellen shared warm impressions of working with Johnny Depp, calling their collaboration "a true celebration of love."

"Festival of Love" on Set

At the premiere of the film "The Christophers," the 84-year-old actor shared that collaborating with Depp on the project Ebenezer: A Christmas Story was a particularly vibrant experience for him.

According to Ian McKellen, his colleague is in great shape and embodies energy, a sense of humor, and professional focus.

"He is sparkling, fun, bold, and at the same time very attentive to his partners. It was a true festival of love. I fell in love with him," the actor noted.

A New Take on a Classic

The film Ebenezer: A Christmas Story, directed by Tai West, is a modern interpretation of Charles Dickens' work.

Johnny Depp plays the role of Ebenezer Scrooge, while Ian McKellen will appear as the ghost of Jacob Marley.

The cast also includes Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, and Daisy Ridley. The premiere of the film is scheduled for November 2026.

Johnny Depp's Return to Major Cinema

The project has become one of Johnny Depp's most notable works in recent years. After participating in the film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the actor stepped back from major Hollywood projects amid legal disputes with Amber Heard.

In 2022, a jury in the U.S. found that both parties had made defamatory statements against each other. Following this, the actor focused on independent projects, including Jeanne du Barry.

Mixed Opinions on Depp

Ian McKellen's remarks came against the backdrop of contrasting views from Brian Cox, who previously criticized Johnny Depp, calling him "overrated."

Thus, a polarizing opinion about the actor is forming again — ranging from sharp criticism to sincere admiration from colleagues on set.
