You Haven't Tried Herring Like This: Recipe for the Tenderest Marinade with Sour Cream

Lightly salted herring combined with tangy onion and thick sour cream acquires a creamy texture, rich flavor, and incredible tenderness in two to three days. We explain how to prepare the marinade.

Ingredients:

  • one lightly salted herring;

  • 200 grams of sour cream;

  • one tablespoon of six percent apple cider vinegar;

  • half a tablespoon of sugar without a heap;

  • half an onion;

  • pepper to taste.

Preparation:

The fish is cleaned and filleted, which is then cut into pieces two centimeters wide. Half of the onion is peeled and sliced into half-rings. In a separate container, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and pepper are mixed.

The herring is laid out in a glass dish in one layer, topped with onion, and covered with the prepared marinade. When using a jar, the ingredients can be layered. Additional salt is usually not required.

200 grams of sour cream are evenly spread over the fish and onion, which should completely cover the ingredients. The container is covered with a lid, foil, or film and placed in the refrigerator for two to three days to marinate.
