Physiotherapist advised elderly people to give up wearing house slippers

The habit of constantly wearing slippers at home can negatively affect the condition of the legs, warned physiotherapist Maria Jesus Lechuga. This is reported by El Confidencial.

The specialist explained that in the absence of active load, the feet gradually lose muscle strength, which affects not only gait but also the stability of the entire body. Moreover, shoes with smooth soles can increase the likelihood of falls, especially on slippery surfaces like tiles or laminate.

According to the expert, it is much healthier to move around the house barefoot or in socks. This helps engage the foot muscles, improves blood circulation, and positively affects the condition of the musculoskeletal system. Over time, this habit may reduce the likelihood of joint and spine problems.

Lechuga also noted that regular work of the foot muscles plays an important role in maintaining physical stability. Giving up house shoes is especially relevant for elderly people and those who spend a lot of time indoors.
