My Journey
— I built my life according to the rules that I consider right for myself. Perhaps this is the main secret of success — to be the master of your own fate, not to be afraid of change, and to strive for what truly makes you happy. My journey cannot be called easy and cloudless. At one point, I had to completely change my life: get a new education, master a new profession. Of course, it was not easy, especially when I had to work, study, pay attention to my teenage daughter, and figure myself out, searching for answers to the questions: "Where do I go next?", "What do I really want to do?". Then I realized a simple but very important thing: the exit is often located where the entrance is. You just need to dare to take the first step — and then the road unfolds by itself. I dared to return to my childhood dream — medicine, and became a podiatrist — a specialist who treats foot diseases.
Serious Approach
Unfortunately, many still confuse podiatry with regular pedicure, but these are completely different things. Podiatry is a medical specialty that requires serious training, deep knowledge, and professional skills. A podiatrist corrects ingrown toenails, treats calluses, warts, and cracks on heels, eliminates areas of hyperkeratosis (thickening of the skin), performs nail plate reconstruction, and provides comprehensive therapeutic care for the feet in accordance with the recommendations of a dermatologist. They treat fungal infections of the nails and skin and other dermatological problems. A podiatrist can also detect a disease at an early stage, provide therapeutic foot care, and give recommendations for the proper choice of footwear and foot care. Unfortunately, people often turn to a specialist only when they can no longer cope with the problem on their own. Professional foot care is especially important for at-risk individuals, primarily for patients with diabetes. Many make the common mistake of trying to solve the problem on their own with folk or pharmacy remedies. But the right approach is to consult a specialist at the first symptoms.
According to statistics, about 100,000 people in Latvia suffer from type 2 diabetes. In Riga, approximately one in six residents faces this disease. At the same time, there are only 88 endocrinologists for the entire country and only 44 diabetic foot clinics.
Unfortunately, there are not many specialists willing to work with such patients, as people often come with very advanced cases, where the situation is critical and requires serious intervention. The procedures I perform can sometimes be unpleasant or even painful. It all depends on the patient's pain threshold and the state of their nervous system. At such moments, it is especially important to be as delicate as possible while being honest with the patient, explaining the real state of affairs. This is a very delicate and responsible moment. But despite all the difficulties, I sincerely love my job and understand its importance.
Balance
I am often asked if I experience professional burnout due to such emotionally and physically challenging work. Honestly, no. It is very important for me to engage in work that has real meaning and helps people. And to restore my strength, I have simple but very valuable sources of energy: communication with my daughter, travel, books...
Women's Happiness
A woman's sense of happiness is primarily born from within. A huge role in this is played by a beloved job, family, children, and the person she loves. Everything else is secondary. We have one life, and there will be no other opportunity to live it. Therefore, I try to live consciously and feel every moment "here and now". This state fills me with powerful energy and is probably one of the reasons why I look so good (smiles).
My Dreams and Plans
I perceive life as an exciting adventure. I do not know what awaits me ahead. Perhaps it will be work abroad, perhaps new professional heights here in Latvia, or maybe life has other twists in store. But one thing I know for sure: I will enjoy every day and continue to develop. My story is written every day, and I am happy to be the author of this story.
