The famous director demanded that the university's teachers adopt a stricter approach to evaluating young actors, calling them completely unprepared.
Konstantin Bogomolov did not hold back from sharp criticism of the students of the Moscow Art Theatre School. The 50-year-old director, who recently left the position of rector of this prestigious university amid a loud scandal, stated that today’s young artists are absolutely unprepared for the challenges of the profession. He strongly urged the faculty to tighten the criteria for evaluating their work.
In a conversation with the publication "Abzac," Bogomolov emotionally shared his disappointment:
"Modern students do not dance, do not sing, their bodies are stiff. They do not play musical instruments. An actor must be able to play at least the piano or guitar. They do not speak French. For some reason, a number of years ago, French was canceled at the Moscow Art Theatre School, so they cannot perform readings of Chekhov and Dostoevsky, which are full of French phrases. I’m not even talking about Tolstoy."

Criticism of the teachers and fake grades
The director also expressed serious complaints about the educators of the institution. In his opinion, there is excessive leniency towards students who do not show the necessary diligence in their studies at the School. Bogomolov stated directly:
"Teachers operate on the principle of 'talented — fine, go ahead.' At the level of 'well, did you read anything from this program?' If not, you are free to go. You won’t get your diploma, and you will be expelled. Enough with the fake grades. We have people graduating from the theater school who are, at best, talented. I’m not even mentioning that they poorly master their specialized education."
“Plush generation” and alarming trends
It is worth reminding that Konstantin Bogomolov has previously criticized the modern acting generation, aptly dubbing it the "plush" generation. He noted that the situation is worsening every year:
"Since the 2010s, every spring I watch the graduation performances of theater schools — each year it becomes more and more catastrophic."

Scandalous departure and public resonance
Let us recall that Konstantin Bogomolov served as acting rector of the Moscow Art Theatre School for less than three weeks. His appointment provoked a storm of indignation among graduates, who sent an open letter to the Minister of Culture. In it, they accused Bogomolov of not adhering to the "ethical principles" of the Moscow Art Theatre and lacking "roots" in the university. This appeal received widespread support among prominent figures, including Yulia Menshova, Marianna Spivak, and Mikhail Shchepkin. At the same time, Sofia Ernst and Sergey Bezrukov spoke in defense of the director. Against the backdrop of such public resonance, Konstantin Bogomolov himself requested to be relieved of his position, although many whispered that his "departure" was actively facilitated by Nikita Mikhalkov himself.
New rector: Konstantin Khabensky
After Bogomolov's departure, possible successors were actively discussed online, including the names of Sergey Bezrukov and Dmitry Pevtsov. However, in the end, Konstantin Khabensky was appointed to lead the School. Commenting on this appointment, Bogomolov succinctly but meaningfully wished his colleague "strength and patience."
