A musty odor may appear in the closet. Household remedies can help reduce humidity and eliminate the 'aroma'.
Raw rice is considered an effective absorbent that can absorb moisture and neutralize odors. A container with it is placed on the shelf. This helps prevent mold growth and keeps clothes fresh.
Baking soda or table salt also absorb excess moisture. They are poured into a small bowl and left in a remote corner of the closet, replacing them every two to three weeks as they harden.
Scented bath salt not only reduces humidity but also gives clothes a light pleasant scent. It is used just like regular salt.
If an odor has already developed, it is recommended to air out the closet and sprinkle mustard powder or ground coffee on the shelves. These remedies neutralize mustiness in 10–12 hours and leave no stains on fabric.
For scenting, a damp cloth with a few drops of essential oil can be used, which is left in the open closet for a couple of hours. The use of a piece of scented soap is also acceptable.
