If you wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall asleep again, it can be frustrating and leave you sleep-deprived. According to a study, about one in three people wakes up in the middle of the night three times a week or more. However, doctor Amir Khan shared tips that can help you fall asleep at night, reports Unilad.
"Friends, I shared a video about why people wake up at 3 a.m., and hundreds of thousands of people watched it, but many asked, 'What should you do when you wake up at 3 a.m.? How can you fall asleep again?' Let's talk about a technique called cognitive shuffle. You know that I've talked a lot about the benefits of sleep for health," noted the doctor in his video on the social media platform Instagram.
According to Khan, the essence of cognitive shuffle is to interrupt the frantic activity of the mind, instead mixing up thoughts, inviting the brain to switch to sleep mode and assuring it that it is safe to sleep.
How Does Cognitive Shuffle Work?
The doctor advises first to come up with a random word and then focus on its first letter. After that, you need to create a list of words that start with that letter.
"As you go through the list, you should visualize each phrase, then move on to the second letter of the chosen word and repeat these steps. Continuing with each letter of the chosen word, you will quickly fall asleep," explained Khan.
