If you love walking around the city but don’t want to be trapped by majestic skyscrapers, don’t worry. There are plenty of cities with lots of greenery and parks that are perfect for walking, writes Express.

Experts from Iglu Cruises analyzed cities around the world using three factors: green spaces, public access to them, and air quality. As a result, they identified the 10 greenest cities in the world. The publication noted that these are the best places to travel if you want to relax in a city that is not completely paved with concrete.

10. Munich, Germany (eco-friendliness score - 50.7 points)

Munich ranks 10th among the greenest cities in the world and is one of the best places for walking. Notably, its famous English Garden, which is larger than New York's Central Park, deserves attention.

9. Reading, United Kingdom (51.7 points)

In ninth place is the British city of Reading, located near London. 35% of its area is designated for public green spaces.

8. Singapore (53.3 points)

Singapore currently has over 700,000 trees, and by 2030, it plans to plant 1 million. On average, there are 66 square meters of green space per city resident.

7. Stockholm, Sweden (55.7 points)

One-third of the city is water, another third is greenery, and the remaining third is urban areas. This city has one of the highest rates of green spaces per capita.

6. Sydney, Australia (58.3 points)

46% of Sydney's area is designated for green spaces and parks. The city is also focused on wildlife restoration.

5. Canberra, Australia (58.7 points)

In Canberra, 45% of the area is occupied by national parks and reserves.

4. Vienna, Austria (59.3 points)

More than 50% of this city is occupied by green spaces. The city has everything from historic gardens to the Vienna Woods – a UNESCO biosphere reserve with numerous walking paths.

3. Helsinki, Finland (60.3 points)

Helsinki is known for its clean air and wild urbanism. In 2024 and 2025, the city won as the most sustainable tourist destination in the world in the Global Sustainability Index of Destinations.

2. Vilnius, Lithuania (72.3 points)

This city officially holds the title of European Green Capital 2025 from the European Commission. 61% of the area here is designated for green spaces.

1. Oslo, Norway (77.3 points)

95% of the city's residents live within 300 meters of a green space. There are also small parks where old parking spaces have been transformed into tiny parks. The city also features the world's first "bee highway" - a corridor of local flowers and bee hotels.
