Eating heavy food before bed (such as a platter of beer snacks or a bag of chips) can lead to insomnia and stomach pain at night. But even quite healthy food can keep you awake without causing discomfort. Here’s what you can eat if you don’t have time to sleep yet.
Hard Cheese
Swiss, Dutch, cheddar, parmesan, and other hard cheese varieties are digested quite slowly. After consuming them, nutritionists do not recommend lying down to avoid causing reflux.
Dark Chocolate
If you crave something sweet yet healthy, dark chocolate is just what you need. It is rich in polyphenols and an excellent source of caffeine. It's a great choice if tea and coffee are literally pouring out of your ears! One square contains about a quarter of a coffee dose or half a tea dose of caffeine.
Hamburger
Beef is a source of protein and iron, and it takes a long time to digest, especially if cooked to medium doneness. Together with vegetables and bread, it will definitely not let you fall asleep quickly.
Matcha
This is essentially powdered green tea that is added to baked goods, smoothies, and some main dishes. It is high in antioxidants, which is good, and sugar, which can cause a spike in blood sugar levels and the body's demand for more carbohydrates. Sleep is out of the question! Especially considering that this product is also rich in caffeine.
