Stretched wardrobe items are a common problem faced by many. However, even items that have lost their shape can be restored and their lifespan extended.
One effective method is the use of hot water and steam. It is especially suitable for wool, cashmere, and blended fabrics. The deformed areas should be dampened with hot water, carefully reshaped to their original contour, and dried with a hairdryer to maintain the shape.
If the elastic on the collar or cuffs is damaged, it is necessary to twist that section into a tight bundle, secure it with a hair tie, and dip it in boiling water for a few seconds. It is believed that the sudden change in temperature helps the fibers contract and regain their original appearance.
Wool and cotton items can be "revived" with cold. For this, the item is soaked in water for several hours, then gently wrung out without twisting, and laid flat to dry on a horizontal surface, placing a terry towel underneath. It is recommended to change the towel as it gets wet, and for heavily stretched areas, ice cubes can be placed on top.
