The problem usually lies not in the active ingredient itself, but in how and with what it is used. Cosmetologist Irina Sozinova discussed the rules for using such cosmetics that help achieve a real effect from vitamin C.

Understand Which Form of Vitamin C is Right for Your Skin

Not all vitamin C is the same. L-ascorbic acid works quickly and effectively, but it can irritate sensitive skin. "Softer forms — ascorbyl glucoside, 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate — provide a cumulative effect and are better suited for regular care. The choice of form should be made after a personal consultation with a specialist, and it is more important than a high percentage number on the packaging," emphasizes the expert.

Correct Concentration

High percentages do not guarantee any wow-result, especially if the skin is not ready. For starters and for sensitive skin, 5-10% is sufficient, while for thick and resilient skin, 10-15% is appropriate. Remember that the best can often be the enemy of the good; too high a concentration often leads to irritation, causing vitamin C to be used less frequently or even abandoned, losing all potential effects.

Freshness and Storage Conditions

Vitamin C is unstable and easily oxidizes. "Darkening of the serum, changes in smell and color — are signals that the activity has decreased. It is better to choose opaque packaging, pump bottles, and store the product away from light and heat. An opened serum should not be stretched over six months, even if the expiration date allows it," advises the doctor.

Smart Combinations Enhance Results

Vitamin C works particularly well in conjunction with vitamin E and ferulic acid — this is a classic antioxidant combination. It also pairs excellently with niacinamide in modern formulas, despite old beauty myths. However, simultaneous use with aggressive acids or retinoids is better spaced out in time to avoid overloading the skin.

Regularity and Sun Protection are Essential

Vitamin C does not provide an instant effect the next morning. Its strength lies in systemic work: evening out skin tone, supporting collagen synthesis, and protecting against oxidative stress, which is so characteristic of modern megacities. At the same time, without daily SPF, even the best serum loses its meaning, so we must not forget about it at any time of the year.
