We bet you’ve ever received a perfume that just didn’t work for you. Or you used to love a scent, but one day you got tired of it. Throwing it away feels wasteful, and have you seen the prices for perfume? It’s one thing if it’s 5,000 rubles, but what if it’s all 30,000–50,000? We understand that the first thing that comes to mind for many is to sell it! But you can also give the fragrance a second life in your home. There are many ways to do this; you can experiment with different methods and keep the ones that work for you.
Home Fragrance
If the perfume doesn’t suit your skin or you’ve grown tired of it, let it work indoors. You can use perfume to scent bed linens, curtains, towels, blankets, couch cushions, and other textiles. You don’t need to spray too much; a couple of spritzes will suffice. You can also make your own diffuser from the perfume: pour some water into a bowl, add a few drops of perfume, and place it next to a heater or radiator. The scent will subtly fill the apartment.
Scenting the Wardrobe
Many people used this life hack back in the Soviet Union. However, they didn’t use disliked perfumes, but rather those that were almost empty in the bottle. The last bit was placed in the wardrobe without a lid. The scent was subtle, and the linens smelled pleasant. Moths also disliked this arrangement, so they quickly retreated from the apartment.
Perfumed Notes on Paper
Do you leave sweet notes for your family on the fridge? Or are you preparing a gift for someone? Spray perfume into the air and pass a sheet of notes, a postcard, wrapping paper, or a notebook through the fragrant cloud. The paper will absorb the scent and retain it for a long time. The recipient will receive a message with your fragrance and will remember you for a long time.
Scenting Christmas Ornaments or Figurines
Just a drop of perfume on a wooden toy or clay figurine is enough for the material to absorb the scent and spread it throughout the apartment. You get a stylish diffuser made by yourself without cluttering the space with bottles.
Play Perfumer
If you really dislike the scent even on yourself, you can try to modify it, playing with the notes and trail. For this, you will need your favorite essential oils or fragrance oils (it’s better to choose those already present in the fragrance pyramid). For example, if the fragrance has fruity or fresh notes, but they are overshadowed by oriental or woody ones, you can enhance the desired chords while neutralizing the heavy ones. It’s best to conduct all mixing and experimenting in a separate container to avoid ruining the perfume completely. And if possible, start with small amounts.
Hair Fragrance
In fact, many factors influence the perception of scents: from body temperature and hormonal background at a specific moment to the weather outside. If you don’t like how the fragrance smells on your skin, you can try applying it to your hair. It might smell completely different. Spray perfume on a comb and run it through your strands. Your hair will smell pleasant all day long. This method can be particularly appealing to people who cook a lot and whose hair smells like food.
Try Layering
Layering several fragrances is a real trend. Surely, you have more than one perfume, but several. You can mix them directly on yourself and find a compromise. For example, citrus fragrances refresh oriental compositions well, removing the "suffocating effect" from the latter. Don’t be afraid to experiment; you might create a personal fragrance that no one else has.
Use in Interior Design
Almost all perfumes come in very beautiful bottles that are hard not to admire. You might not even use the perfume but place it in a prominent spot as decor. And you can confidently allow guests to use your perfume if they ask. Who knows, if you’re going to the movies, restaurant, or theater with friends, and one forgets their perfume, you have yours right there in plain sight. You’ve done a good deed, and the perfume will gradually run out.
Make a Candle
If you have a fragrance-free candle, you can turn it into an aromatic version. Just melt a little wax on top and add a few drops of perfume. The perfume won’t burn like essential oil, but it will release its scent when heated. Just make sure the perfume doesn’t contain alcohol, or there’s a risk of strong ignition.
