Robusta or Arabica? Which Coffee Variety Stains Teeth Less

A white smile gives confidence. Therefore, people are willing to spend large sums on whitening. Sometimes even experimenting with dubious kits from marketplaces. Dentists warn: take care of your enamel and gums. There are other, safer ways to maintain the natural whiteness of your teeth. It is enough to follow a few simple rules.

The Right Coffee

Coffee, along with tea and red wine, has always been one of the main culprits behind tooth stains. However, we now know: it all depends on which specific type of invigorating beverage you prefer.

Researchers from South Korea found that coffee lovers who drink robusta beans have whiter teeth than those who prefer arabica. Arabica can quickly change the color of enamel.

The scientists have an explanation for this effect. The fact is that robusta coffee beans are less acidic. High acidity softens tooth enamel, making it easier for staining substances to penetrate.

There’s another useful tip for coffee enthusiasts: rinse your mouth after each coffee consumption — this will reduce the risk of tooth darkening.

Additionally, cold coffee stains teeth less than very hot coffee. Also, coffee with milk is less harmful to teeth: milk prevents the pigment from binding to the tooth surface.

Eat Pineapples

Another great habit for your teeth is to use fresh pineapples as a healthy snack option.

Researchers from Loma Linda University in California conducted an experiment. For ten days, volunteers rubbed their teeth with pineapple core for five minutes a day in the laboratory. It turned out that this procedure helps effectively whiten teeth.

The reason is that pineapples contain the enzyme bromelain. This substance is often added to whitening toothpastes: it effectively breaks down surface stains on enamel.

However, it is important to remember: pineapple is acidic, so in large quantities, this fruit can harm tooth enamel. To protect yourself, you can also rinse your mouth with water after consuming it. Strawberries work similarly.

Be Careful with Soy Sauce

Many have heard about how coffee and tea can stain enamel. However, soy sauce also makes the list of the most dangerous for your white smile.

Soy sauce contains chromogens, which can affect enamel and stain it brown. However, dentists warn: tomato sauce can also provoke the appearance of stains, writes the Daily Mail.

At the same time, it is important to understand: the reasons for the darkening of tooth enamel are not always related to what you eat.
