Fresh dill is a great source of vitamins that we need so much in the cold season. Try growing it in your own kitchen.
Fragrant and full of life, herbs are not just a source of vitamins; they are a small celebration for the soul. In winter, when the cold reigns outside, a home mini-garden can lift your spirits. Fresh dill from your own windowsill garden will also diversify the flavor of any dish.

Choosing a Location
As the specialist notes, before planting dill, it is important to choose the right place for your home garden.
"It should not be too warm or too cold. The ideal temperature is between 18 and 22 degrees. During the heating season, the air in the apartment becomes dry, so I recommend placing a humidifier near the plants or keeping a container of water. The window should be well-lit.
If there is not enough light, use LED or special phytolamps. The lamps should be turned on for several hours a day, usually from 5 PM to 8 PM, and all day on cloudy days," notes Ilyashenko.
For dill, you will need pots and containers with drainage holes. Pour a layer of drainage at the bottom of the pot. Use quality soil that retains water well.
The main secret to success is to choose varieties intended for growing indoors.
Preparing Seedlings
Preparing dill seeds for planting is simple. Soak them in hot water for a day. Wrap them in a paper towel and moisten them again. Cover the seedlings with a plate and place them in a warm place. Continue to water until sprouts appear, and they can be planted.
There is another method: rinse the seeds, soak them for two days, periodically rinsing. However, this method does not always yield good results.
Germinated seeds are placed in holes at the depth indicated in the instructions (usually about 1 cm). Cover with soil and leave them alone.
After planting in the pot, dill can be covered with plastic wrap for a greenhouse effect.
Watering and Fertilizing
According to the expert, caring for your home garden is important for tasty herbs on the windowsill.
"For juicy herbs, feeding is necessary. It is better to fertilize houseplants on sunny days. Use complex or nitrogen fertilizers according to the instructions. For individual feedings, it is better to choose a sunny day," explains Ilyashenko.
Additionally, water-soluble fertilizers can be used once a month. If the dill starts to yellow, use nitrogen fertilizers.
You can harvest the crop a couple of days after feeding.
The rules for watering home dill are very simple.
"Water when the top layer of soil dries out. It is important to remember that herbs prefer drier conditions than onions," explains the expert.
