Pomegranate Launches the «Youth Hormone»: How the Fruit Affects the Mature Body

According to the results of the study by the City University of Manchester (USA), pomegranate is an accessible and common product whose consumption after the age of 50 can enhance a person's vitality.

The experiment involved 72 participants aged between 50 and 72 years who took pomegranate extract. Scientists aimed to study its effect on the youth hormone, the production of which decreases with age. It is important to note that this process is associated with a reduction in physical strength and an increased risk of developing diseases. In addition to being important for the growth and renewal of cells, the hormone also helps strengthen muscles and bones, positively affects the cardiovascular system and brain function.

All participants were divided into two groups; those in the first group received 750 mg capsules of pomegranate extract daily, while the second group received the same amount of placebo. Hormone levels were measured after 12 weeks. It was found that among those who took the extract, the level of the youth hormone increased by almost 23%.

However, it is important to note the following fact: the pomegranate extract does not have any significant effect on the length of telomeres (the end caps of chromosomes). In other words, the rate of cellular aging is not related to the presence or absence of pomegranate in a person's diet.
