Estonia has become the third country in the EU to allow Tesla cars with autopilot systems on the roads, following the Netherlands and Lithuania.
It is noted that no additional legislative acts were required for this step. The Estonian transport authority announced that it has permitted the use of Tesla's FSD driver assistance system on its roads, recognizing the type certificate that was first issued in the Netherlands.
In the coming months, drivers of new Tesla electric vehicles in Estonia will be able to install a software update for autopilot.
"This is still a driver assistance system, where the driver is responsible for all vehicle behavior on the road and its safety and must take control when necessary," explained Jurgo Vahtra, head of the Vehicle Maintenance Department.
"At the same time, Tesla itself monitors whether the driver is engaged in distractions or looking away. If not, the driver is warned that they are not paying attention to the traffic," he added.
