Smartphone Users Urged to Change Their PIN Codes Immediately

Forbes urged users to change their smartphone PIN codes due to peeping individuals.

Journalists from Forbes magazine have urged all smartphone users to change their device PIN codes. The article is available on the publication's website.

The authors of the media referenced a study by Samsung, which found that 56 percent of people admitted to regularly looking at the screens of other users' smartphones. Most often, displays attract the attention of onlookers in public transport. Based on this, Forbes specialists asked phone users to update their PIN codes now and to do so regularly in the future.

According to the authors, it is possible to install the latest patches, but still leave your smartphone at risk due to curious individuals, some of whom may be scammers or malicious actors. "Gaining access to your phone through the lock code is one of the easiest ways to steal personal data, as smartphones can reveal a lot of information," the authors noted.

The journalists also pointed out that a very large number of users set simple PIN codes on their devices — repeating characters, birth years, and so on. The article states that users should abandon four-digit lock codes and choose 16-digit ones — their installation is supported by smartphones on both Android and iOS.

At the end of March, Apple began sending notifications to iPhone users whose devices are running old versions of iOS. Updates started being received by smartphone owners with iOS 17 installed.
