The yellowing of transparent smartphone cases is inevitable, but it can be slowed down.
Journalists from BGR explained why transparent smartphone cases begin to yellow over time.
According to the authors, transparent cases are extremely popular smartphone accessories due to their low cost. However, over time, they can yellow. Experts identified oxidation and exposure to ultraviolet radiation as the main reasons why a case may change color.
The article notes that most cases on the market are made from silicone or thermoplastic polyurethane. "These materials protect your phone well, as they are generally durable and convenient to use, but they are susceptible to external environmental factors, namely oxidation," the authors noted. Additionally, the structure of the materials can be slowly destroyed by sunlight and UV radiation.
"Unfortunately, the more often you use a transparent phone case, the greater the likelihood that it will yellow," the specialists emphasized, stating that the color change of a transparent case is inevitable. Tobacco smoke, cleaning sprays, and airborne pollutants accelerate the oxidation process.
The journalists concluded that the yellowing process can be slowed down by occasionally washing the cases in warm water with a small amount of dish soap.
