Microsoft has created a Word killer

Windows Central: New features have appeared in Notepad, available in Word.

Microsoft has transformed Notepad into a full-fledged text editor. This was reported by Windows Central.

According to the media journalists, Notepad has begun to acquire features of an advanced text editor. They cited the ability for spell checking, text formatting, hyperlinks, headings, and numbered lists as examples. Additionally, the program is expected to gain support for images in the future. In this regard, the authors referred to Notepad as a "Word killer" and a competitor to other paid applications.

Moreover, Notepad has introduced artificial intelligence (AI) features, but they are only available to users of the paid Copilot service. These features allow for editing and rewriting texts. However, the application remains a note-taking program. According to the journalists, Microsoft improved Notepad because its competitors, such as Apple Notes and Google Keep, have also become more functional.

The article states that despite the new features, Microsoft product users often get frustrated when the company adds new capabilities to its services. "Many users simply need a good, functional built-in note-taking application to record necessary information," the authors noted.

The journalists concluded that Notepad can still be used as a simple text creation program — all new features can be disabled in the settings.
