Android Police called Android cleaning apps useless.
Journalists from the specialized publication Android Police advised Android smartphone owners not to use third-party services for cleaning the operating system (OS). The article was published on the site of the media.
According to the author of the portal, Ben Halesi, it has long been believed that memory cleaning programs for smartphones provide real benefits. However, the specialist stated that in 2026 this myth should be debunked because Android already has built-in tools for optimizing device performance.
Halesi explained that in the early 2010s, Android was even installed on low-powered phones: since the hardware was cheap, the OS had to be manually cleaned. "Now Android 16 has all the necessary features for this," noted the journalist.
He mentioned that there is no need to manually manage the OS memory, as the system has a built-in protection mechanism against memory shortages called Low Memory Killer Daemon (lmkd). Additionally, Android automatically archives applications that have not been used for several months. Ben Halesi concluded that if a smartphone starts to lag, it is worth paying attention to the amount of free disk space and battery resources.
