OpenAI is seeking new ways to monetize ChatGPT that could radically change the logic of the neural network's operation. This involves the introduction of sponsored content: advertising will appear not in the form of familiar banners, but directly within the dialogue, mimicking an ordinary recommendation from the chatbot.
According to The Information, the company is already testing prototypes of advertising tools. Sources report that OpenAI is exploring a mechanism where the algorithm will prioritize advertisers' materials when generating responses. In one working version, the sponsored block was placed in a sidebar next to the chat window.
A representative of OpenAI confirmed that the company is indeed considering such scenarios. According to him, against the backdrop of explosive audience growth, the project is looking for ways to maintain service accessibility for everyone, and advertising is one of the logical tools. At the same time, the company assures that "user trust remains a key factor, and any advertising formats must take this sensitivity into account."
If these mechanisms are launched, the effect will be much larger than just the appearance of ads in the chat. Unlike traditional search engines, ChatGPT possesses deep context: it knows the user's interests, work schedule, and habits. This allows for the creation of extraordinarily precise advertising - where a commercial offer looks like an impartial AI recommendation.
In fact, ChatGPT could turn into a tool that not only answers questions but also gently nudges the user towards purchasing specific goods or services. Such links could be disguised as reference information even within the chatbot's search results.
There are currently no official timelines for the launch or final format of the advertising. However, considering the colossal infrastructure costs, the first commercial tests could begin as early as the first half of 2026.
