Windows 11 applications have started to consume more memory than before.
Many applications of popular services designed for Windows 11 consume too much RAM. This is stated in a study by Windows Latest.
Media specialists reported that a number of the most popular applications for Windows 11 consume a significant amount of RAM because they are based on browser engines. They noted that native applications were prioritized in the past, but they have started to be abandoned due to the high cost of development and the need for support.
As an example, the authors cited the messaging app Discord, popular among gamers. The program consumes less than 1 gigabyte of RAM during normal use, but it often requires around 4 gigabytes of memory. The same problem exists with WhatsApp (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia). Previously, the messenger consumed about 100 megabytes in the background, but now it uses more than 1 gigabyte.
The authors noted that such a problem arises even when using Microsoft programs — for example, Teams. When launched, the service requires about 1 gigabyte of memory.
"The truth is that modern web browsers use an outrageous amount of RAM, and any application running on them will simply consume it," the journalists concluded.
