Smartphone manufacturers will provide less memory for the same price due to savings.
Smartphone and PC manufacturers will have to reduce the specifications of their devices in 2026 for the sake of savings. This is stated in a report by the analytical company TrendForce.
Experts from the firm predicted that the rise in prices for RAM and other components will continue into the first quarter of 2026. This situation will exert "significant pressure" on the costs of gadget manufacturers. As a result, they will have to downgrade the specifications of their devices.
For instance, flagship smartphone manufacturers will implement 16 gigabytes of RAM in their gadgets less frequently. However, consumers of high-end devices will experience the crisis with the least pain. The amount of RAM in mid-range devices will remain at 8 gigabytes, and models with 6 gigabytes of RAM will frequently enter the market.
The most affected will be buyers of cheap phones. Manufacturers will more often supply affordable devices with only 4 gigabytes of RAM.
In addition, companies that develop and produce personal computers (PCs) will also have to start saving. TrendForce specialists predicted that the standard RAM for mid-range laptops will become 16 gigabytes. Cheap models will more often have no more than 8 gigabytes of memory.
