European aerospace corporation Airbus has crossed an important commercial milestone this week.
The Airbus A320 aircraft has surpassed the American Boeing 737 to become the most popular airliner in history.
According to the British consulting firm Cirium, Airbus has broken Boeing's long-standing record by delivering the A320 aircraft to the Saudi carrier Flynas. This delivery brought the total number of A320 family aircraft delivered to 12,260 since its entry into service in 1988.
Boeing set the standard for the production of narrow-body aircraft with its popular 737 model, first introduced in the 1960s. Following fatal accidents in 2018 and 2019, the American aerospace company began to incur losses.
The Airbus A320 is a family of narrow-body aircraft designed for medium-haul flights. The A320 made a technological breakthrough by becoming the world's first mass-produced passenger airliner with a fly-by-wire control system, allowing pilot commands to be transmitted through a computer.
