The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided to suspend the main referee of the Champions League quarter-final match between "Barcelona" and Madrid's "Atletico" (0:2), Istvan Kovach, until the end of the current season of the competition.
The organization noted several mistakes made by the Romanian referee in the mentioned match. This was reported by Sport.es.
It is emphasized that Kovach will work at the 2026 World Cup. The referee's name is included in the FIFA list.
Earlier, "Barcelona" announced that it had filed a complaint with UEFA regarding the refereeing and VAR. In particular, the blaugrana highlighted the episode when, in the 54th minute of the match, an opponent's player handled the ball in the penalty area, but a penalty was not awarded.
