Russian forward Alexander Ovechkin of Washington announced that he will make a decision about his future in the summer of 2026.
According to the 40-year-old hockey player, he plans to discuss the situation with his family and the team's management. The player's health condition will be a decisive factor in his choice.
"We are going to make a decision in the summer. I need to talk to my family, with the team's management. This concerns health; I will turn 41 in September, so it needs to be approached wisely," Ovechkin's words are quoted by the Washington press service.
In the 2025/26 NHL season, the forward played 78 games, scoring 61 points (31+30). The forward has been with Washington since 2005.
