Mircea Lucescu has died at the University Hospital of Bucharest

The famous Romanian football coach Mircea Lucescu has died. He was 80 years old.

The death of Lucescu was reported by journalist Emanuel Roșu.

The coach was previously hospitalized after losing consciousness at the Romanian national team’s training camp. Doctors diagnosed him with acute myocardial infarction.

Initially, his condition was stabilized, but then complications arose. Lucescu was transferred to intensive care and later placed in an artificial coma. According to Romanian media, doctors also identified circulation problems and the effects of strokes.

Lucescu will be remembered as one of the most decorated coaches in Eastern Europe. He won 35 trophies and worked for many years with Zenit, Shakhtar Donetsk, the Romanian national team, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş, and Dynamo Kyiv, and was among the most recognizable coaches in the post-Soviet space.
