In the 27th round of the Premier League match against Brentford (2:0), the 40-year-old player started in the lineup and was substituted in the 90th minute. This game marked his 654th in the English league.
Previously, the record for most matches was held by another former England international, Gareth Barry (653 matches).
James Milner is known for his performances with the England national team, Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Leeds. The midfielder is a three-time English champion, a two-time FA Cup winner, a League Cup winner, and a Community Shield winner.
