Latvian officials included in the honorary guests of the Latvian Olympic Committee at the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo do not plan to personally attend the Paralympic Games, as found out by the LETA agency.
Neither Prime Minister Evika Silina, nor President Edgars Rinkēvičs, nor Minister of Education and Science Dace Melbārde plan to attend, representatives of these officials confirmed to the LETA agency.
Silina and Rinkēvičs attended the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, and met with several Latvian athletes during the Games, while Melbārde plans to attend the closing ceremony.
The head of the Latvian Paralympic delegation will be Saeima member Zane Skujina-Rubene. She has led the Latvian delegation at all Paralympic Games since 2016. Other officials are not included in the Latvian Paralympic delegation.
The Winter Paralympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo will take place from March 6 to 15, with 79 medal sets contested in six sports. Latvia will be represented by seven athletes at these Winter Paralympic Games — Ojar Briedis, Linda Meiere, Elija Asnina, Sergey Dyachenko, and Yuri Volgin will compete against the strongest national teams in the world in wheelchair curling, while the mixed doubles wheelchair curling team will be represented by Polina Rozhkova and Agris Lasmans, who will also be the flag bearers for Latvia at these Games.
