On the first day of the last week of the Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Latvian athletes will compete today in short track and bobsleigh events, reports LETA.
At 11:00 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, the first run will be held by the Latvian crew in the two-man bobsleigh with pilot Jekabs Kalenda and brakeman Matis Miknis. The second run will start at 13:00, and two more will take place on Tuesday.
Kalenda is the only Latvian pilot at the Olympic Games, as Renars Grantins cannot participate due to a fall during training.
At 12:00 in Milan, Reinis Berzins will start in the preliminary heats of the 500-meter short track event, replacing Robert Cruzbergs, who won bronze in the 1500 meters. Cruzbergs won the medal despite a knee injury.
Athletes who finish in the top two positions in each heat, as well as the four best participants who finish third, will advance to the next round. The competition will continue with quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals on Wednesday.
The Olympic events are being broadcast live by the LTV7 channel.
Latvia has two medals at these Olympic Games: silver in luge won by Elina Ieva Bota and bronze in short track by Robert Cruzbergs.
The Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo will last until February 22.
