The first match at the Olympics for the Latvian national team ended in defeat. The score was 5:1 in favor of the USA.
In the first period, the Americans scored 3 goals, but only one was counted – the first. The second goal was disallowed because the Americans had incorrectly entered the zone beforehand. The third was disallowed because an American player pushed Latvian goalkeeper Elvis Merzlikins in the crease.
Thanks to the Latvian national team’s video coach Peteris Groms for the two disallowed goals – he quickly noticed the violations and insisted on reviewing the goals.
In turn, Renars Krastenbergs stood out for the Latvian national team.
The tie of 1:1 lasted until the middle of the match, and then the goals started pouring in. In the second half of the second period, 3 goals flew into Merzlikins’ net.
In the third period, he was replaced by Arturs Silovs, who allowed one goal. That was how it ended.
The next match for the Latvian national team will be on Saturday, February 14, at 13:10. The opponent is the German national team. They need to win.
